Introduction

With origins dating back to 1741, Historic St. Mary’s Church remains a mosaic of people from different cultures, economic backgrounds, and ages. It has the distinguished honor of being the fourth oldest Catholic Church in the original thirteen colonies. We also celebrate the added blessing of St. Mary, the Blessed Virgin of the Assumption, as our patroness. In 2009, our church was granted a distinct spiritual bond with the Papal Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome, and with that we were granted the privilege of a Plenary Indulgence for each member of the faithful who makes a pilgrimage to the church under certain prescribed conditions.

For over two and a half centuries, our Church has been ministering to the needs of our community. While facilities and faces have changed over the years, one thing remains the same…our commitment to Christ, to one another, and to the betterment of our community.

Led by a dedicated pastor and a strong corps of lay leaders and volunteers, St. Mary’s is an active community comprised of over 1,200 households providing numerous opportunities for people of all ages to participate in the spiritual, educational, social and service ministries of our Church.

Despite our strong heritage there is even more that we can accomplish as a parish. Richly blessed by those who have gone before us, now is our time to bless our children and future generations. This project is our Enduring Legacy.
